SANLUCAR DE BARRAMEDA
Sanlúcar de Barrameda lays in the Atlantic Coast of the Andalusia region being one of the main populations of the Cadiz province. Situated on the left side of the river Guadalquivir, Sanlùcar is surrounded by landscapes of great natural beauty, including the Doñana National Park, considered one of the most important unspoilt spaces in the whole Europe and declared a Biosphere Reserve by Unesco. The strategic situation on the natural port formed by the mouth of Spain's longest navigable river has always attracted seamen and merchants who have traded with local population since the times of the mythical Tartressic civilisation. These trade relationships resulted in a rich mixing of cultures which culminated in the takeover by Guzman el Bueno in 1297. It was the Guzmans and their descendants the Dukes of Medina Sidonia (who played a key role in the discovery of the new world) and then Godoy and the Dukes of Montpensier in the 19th century, who were largely responsible for the important historical and artistic legacy to be found in Sanlùcar de Barrameda.
This monumental wealth is of great interest for visitors and a source of great pride for the Sanluquenos themselves.
With about 7 km of sands that "live" in a particular climate, both in wintertime or in the summertime and a number of hourse of sunbeams over the standard with beautiful and renowned sunsets, that are the source of inspiration for painters and poets; with an interesting and varied local gastronomy based on excellent prime matters from the sea, from the land and on its wine of course, the Manzanilla; as well as its particular fiestas and the traditions that in the medieval chronicles exhalted already as incomparable and at lastthe Manzanilla, a part integrating in Sanlucar for that vine is originary from that city.
