Emilio Lustau S.A. was created by Don José Ruiz-Berdejo.
It was a modest beginning: DOn José. a judicial account, grew his vineyards in his farm called Nuestra Senora de la Esperanza, nearby Jerez de la F., where he used to stock wines in his house on the vineyard and then he sold them to the great exporter bodegas. In fact he was a storeman. In 1940 his brother in law Don Emilio Lustau Ortega moved the bodega to the ancient Santiago quarter in the old town of Jerez. There, in the buildings that formed part of the Arabian historical walls of the town he got his store wider but he kept on working as a storeman. Since 1950 up to nowadays the signature is the export company of the Jerez wines. In the first decade of 1970 the company kept their expansion. First by building up new bodegas rooms in the familiy farm of Nuestra Senora de la Esperanza. Then, starting since the early 80's, under the management of Rafaelo Balao he converted in one of the most renovating companies in Jerez. Rafael Balao realized that Lustau had to be the pioneer for Quality. His ideas to match tradition and innovation opened the way so that Lustau nowadays is identified with quality and prestige. The Solera Reserva was created by starting from the life of Lustau from his beginning as a storeman. Then came the Sherry Almacenista consisting in very special wines of small producers to be offere to selected customers. In 1988 entered the new bottle that was unique and unrepeatable. In 1990 Lustau joined the Luis Caballero group SA and gained of strength in the market and expanded furtherly. In 2001 Lustau bought buildings from DOmecq and nowadays there are the Lustau wines.
