The “Casali dell’Osteria” lay in the heart of Orcia Valley from where you can enjoy the sight from the top of Amiata Mountain, Radicofani, Monticchiello, Rocca D’Orcia and the Castello di Spedaletto on the foreground that was built up in the 2nd century as a place of welcoming for pilgrims and wayfarers. The farm holidays is managed by the owners of the farm and live a few meters far from the buildings. They are available to satisfy any of your needs. The name of Hostaria Estate (Podere Osteria) refers probably to a restoration post that was born along one of the several variations to the Francigena Way. It is just along that route that several fortified villages besides of hospital foundations of assistance for wayfarers rose up. The whole land surrounding the Podere Osteria has suffered the presence of the Spedaletto Castle, one of the most important “grance” in the Santa Maria della Scala Hospital, a powerful religious and political institution dedicated to the assistance and care for pilgrims and salesmen ever since the year 1200. The “grance”, that are fortified farms, mills and stores rose up between the 13th and the 14th century to rationalize the agriculture production; as they are distributed around one or more courtyards they were made up of lodges, cellars, cowsheds or sheepfolds and chapels.Nowadays the Casale Osteria belongs to Dezi family and is made up of three main buildings. In the first Casale (country-house) you can find 2 apartments. The Maialino (small pork – with a double room, bathroom with its window, living room with kitchen corner) and Cinghiale (Wild Boar – with the same service as the previous one).Their name is given thanks to the original hangar where you used to grow pigs for domestic use. In the second Casale you can find the apartment Gallo (rooster – double room, bathroom with window and a living room with a kitchen provided with fridge, a wide oven and a fireplace, with a sofa, a bed and tester bed) and the Cat (double room, bathroom with window and a living room with a kitchen provided with fridge, a wide oven and a fireplace with a sofa): their names are due to the chimneypots placed on the roof. One of them has a rooster in wrought iron, on the other a cat shaped terracotta, both realized by local craftsmen.
The 4 apartments have been finely recovered by using the local stone for the outer facing and matters of local craftsmen for inner refinings. Naturally they are provided with heating, air conditioning and Cable Tv. Among the services they provide there is even the BBQ and the Mountain Bike rental. Lundry service is an extra.
Eventually in the old sheds placed under the house of the third Casale they have recovered a common hall with a large fireplace, a ceiling on sight with vaults placed in a unique and original way.
